Wow, nice shot and handsome fish! Mine is about the same size. What are you feeding him?

Thanks...frozen bloodworm cubes cut to size and uncooked med shrimp cut appox in half 2x a day...i give him the blood worms first then the shrimp...he really homes in on the shrimp and will take in from my fingers...he was looking for it in the pic...i have given him live crickets a couple weeks ago....he will not take pellets at this time...

Your welcome. I feed mine frozen blood worms too. He usually waits for the cube to get picked at by the convicts and dempsey and then sucks the whole cube in his mouth. I give him and the others food sticks as a main staple. I've done shrimp too and it's a good treat for him. It's hard to not want to over feed the guy isn't it!? I should try crickets, my old oscar loved them.

DSCN0793.JPGThis is my Jag right now. Waiting to see if it's a male or fem. It was the fastest growing out of the six I bought and I held on to two more in another tank. I want to grow out a male to full size, at least by aquarium standards.

Nice jag ...i wish i could confidently say what sex your is but i still have doubts on mine ...yours has that strong lateral spotting that females retain while the rest of the pattern is faded..mine has a pointy reproductive organ but sometimes i wonder if i am judging it right...as far as the biggest in a group being male...i read someone else here say that the biggest they had twice turned out female the biggest a friend of mine ended up female and the other jag i have that was the biggest at the lfs looks now to be female... definitly keep the others you have and push their growth ...you might get supprised..usually the way i found out the fish i thought was male was not was to come to the tank and see it alone with its eggs...i hope we both get the fish we are looking to get..Adult male jags are very impressive...and yeah its hard to not feed mine two times a day...he begs like no tommorrw..i tred to go a few no feeding days and still ended up feeding it once...and then i feel compelled to get up nout of a dead sleep at 1am and do a water change...

Cich, yours very much, looks like a male. Mike James' looks female IMHO. Here's a pic of my male when he was about 5 1/2".

Cich78: I am trying to cut down feedings to twice a day. During the week the jag and others get fed twice at night. Weekends I am guilty of letting them gorge too much. Glad I kept the other two who might turn out male! MTBjake: I agree that it is looking female. BTW I use TL when I describe fish length. You fellas also?

wow you got a nice jag as well as the carpinte....real nice Jag you have and he does look bigger than 5 1/2 inches...post more pics of him if you can :)

I think a lot of hobbyist tend toward TL over ST. The fish still has to turn around in the tank. I will try to put up a pick of one of my other jags. I added him to the 60 gal with the other one and now the whole tank is in a riot! Hahaha
