Hi all,

Terribly sorry to post these images bc of how horrifying it is to me. My jaguar cichlid spazzed the yesterday when I came to sit down by the tank. Somehow he managed to have caught his fin on a rock in the tank. I am unsure if it will grow back at this point, can anyone tell me how screwed my poor fish is? I pulled out some of the rocks I had in the tank to help make sure no further injuries occur. I plan to do very frequent water changes like every other day but he/she hasn't really eaten since.

That’s a weird one. I’m sure if he keeps eating and acting relatively normal it should heal over time. I forget which product, I think melafix, aids in helping fins re-grow, but you might want to look into that. That’s a nice looking Jag by the way. I’m sure it will come back strong.

Thanks all for the reassurance and knowledge! I have never had a situation like this happen, so it was scary lol. Plan is water change 50% every other day and I'll grab some melafix!

Thanks for the compliment! Been growing it out since it was 1-2 inches, trying my best. Only other thing I could think that happened was the pleco slammed him/her. They do kinda get into it

I personally do not see an issue, having raised jags it can and well get allot worse than that.

Update: He/She has another right fin again! I think what happened was he/she was flaring gills and his/her fin went forward into the right gill. This is the most bizzare situation I have ever been in. It popped back into his gill and came out again by the end of the day yesterday. Has anyone who kept jags ever had this weird issue? I will post a pic later for proof, but he/she is perfectly fine! So weird, is their anything I should be worried about? I have never heard of this happening before

Great to hear that.

Great to hear that.

Definitely a relief for myself lol. I still did another 50% water change yesterday, and overfilled my bucket during bc I was just staring at the "new" fin in disbelief. I still would like to hear if anyone has had their jags get their pectoral fins get jammed in their gills. I might just have a lil goober fish if not haha

Fish has been doing well, I said a while back I'd post pics so here he/she is. I still haven't heard word if any other jag owners have had their fish's fins contort like that but I'm assuming it's okay since the fish is unharmed. Where should I post more pics as the fish continues to grow?
