Jaguar cichlid problem. PLEASE HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
9" Jag with 3" silver dollars is not a good combo, as you have just learned the hard way. Now, 9" Jag with adults silver dollars, that could work. Finding big dithers to pair with an already-big jag might be a problem. What size tank are you keeping the jag in?

Definitely learned the hard way haha but He will be living in a 75 gallon for the next 12 months

Unfortunately, in a tank that size, I don't think dithers will work/help. Try offering a variety of foods. You might also want to post a pic of the tank... there might be some suggestions on how to alter your setup to make the fish feel more secure. E.g., backgrounds on 3 sides etc.

75g not big enough for a jag just an FYI, and Jags need there own tank IMHO unless you can swing a 250g or better. keep the water pristine and he will come around, Jags very hardy fish,

Just keep the water pristine and give it time. The jag will need time to adjust and will eat when ready. I would definitely plan to upgrade like pops suggested. I definitely wouldn't add any tankmates. I would focus on water conditions and keeping it solo and stress free.

Op... any updates? Wondering how this rescue turned out. Did he ever start eating again?

Also to add to the thing.. maybe a lack of decor was getting to him? Every time I move my cichlids to something with no decor they mope.

He's doing great now! I went to my lfs and they suggested a wave maker, and that perked him right up he's been eating well and follows me around his tank whenever I come into my room. Complete 180!

That's awfully good to hear! Maybe there wasn't enough oxygen in your tank?
