Jaguar Cichlid Sex

Hey. Can someone help me identify the sex of my Jaguar Cichlid. It's 3 years old and about 12" long. Someone suggested it's a female, but I'd like confirmation. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Cool. Thanks for the quick reply. I've had her since she was one inch long. I have her in a 125. If I were to get a male, how hard would breeding them be? Or am I asking for disaster? She's pretty aggressive.

125 is good for her. getting a male is a can of worms, i suggest not doing it and enjoy her.

That’s a male my friend. Looks a lot like pops male actually. Check his vent. You’ll most likely see a little barb looking thing. Head shape, fins and dark meandering spotting on lower half make this an easy tell. Nice fish

Here’s one example of a pair. Notice how the female has little to no spotting on the lower half of her body and how it’s faint instead of jet black. Google Jaguar cichlids pairs and you’ll notice the distinction. You have a boy

Here’s a few more different examples of pairs. Notice how the females have a much less decorated body on their lower half and have hardly if any spotting on their face.
