Today I was at the lfs and I saw a jaguar cichlid and he looked awesome but I don't really know anyhting about them. So can you give me all the info you know about like size and overall disposition them b/c I feel kinda clulessnow. The only empty tank I have now is a 29 gal would this be big enough for it? it is roughly 4 inches now and is $40 is this a good buy? All help is appreciated.
Thanks logo.

$40 at 4" is a huge rip over here in Cali. But I don't know about Kansas, might be an ok deal there? And you'll need at least a 55 gallon to grow that fish out properly before moving it to a 125 for life. If you want to work with bare minimums then go with a 75 gallon tank. It'll do fine on a diet of any good staple cichlid pellet.

$40.00 for a 4" inch Jag would be way too much to pay here in MD also. I have mine growing up in a 90gal tank as we speak. As for disposition its a fish by fish basis like any other cichlid. Some will be real glass bangers while others will be kitty cats. Mine redecorates his tank at will and killed his mate when I moved them from the community tank where they got along fine. They had spawned twice together but the tankmates kept eating the fry as soon as ther hatched.

you can get 2" for 8 bucks, they are very hardy, most are very unfriendly, most are amazing lookin once they mature(juvies seem kinda blah). 29 gallons way small and if you get a breeding pair you will soon have a species tank:)

$40 is waaay too much for a 4" jag. I've kept one in a 29g before as a grow out. They grow pretty quickly averaging about 1" per month and usually slows down a bit around 8" They're pretty hardy fish and are pretty aggressive for the most part. Some people are lucky enough to get a pretty mellow one. I'd say a 75g will work for awhile, but a 125g would be better for life.

i am new to the jag thing as well, in fact i am new to the fish keeping thing to be honest. my lil jag is about 4-5" now and has just started squaring up to some of his tank mates testing the water, mainly my robertsonni and the amaller of my 2 convicts.

to be honest he has fitted in fine (although time will tell)

the only thing is he seems to have a thing for chasing one of my cat fish around, no injuries as of yet though.

price wise that is a bit steep even for the uk

cheers

get some shots up so we can tell you if hes anything special. normally i would expect the price to be $10 maximum in america, i payed equivalent to $6 for my 4" and hes stunning.
