  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 4 foot long jags in a 125 with a shoal of silver dollars (6-7 inch) and a 14 inch long brown and gold plec. They are fairly easy going from my experiance. I have been keeping jags on and off for over 15 years and have never seen a real mean one. I think the key is to raise them together and they will be alright.

I've had Jags before 2 in fact both were rasied from fry along with 2 Jack Dempseys.I figured it was the best was to raise them to appreciate there tank mates..the tanks was a 150gl and worked perfect for the size the Jags got.Excellent fish and treat them right and you will be hand feeding them so enough...

I HAVE A RED DEVIL, JACK AND A JAGUAR CICHLID IN A 55 GALLON TANK WITH
TWO LACE CAT FISH AND ONE TALKING CAT FISH.
THE STRESS LEVEL IS VERY HIGHT ALL THE TIME." THAT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE FISH"
BY THE WAY MY JACK IS 5,IN AND HE IS THE SMALLEST CICLID IN MY TANK.
I WILL UPGRADE MY TANK VERY SOON. 60 GALLON SHOULD BE A TEMPERARY TANK FOR YOU
WITH THE FISH YOU WANT TO KEEP.

well my foot long male just bit me as I was cleaning his aquarium...... didn't draw blood but it wakes you up! I finally had to get a net to keep him a bay...... heck I don't even think his female is cute

They are in a 120 gal.

I thought you couldnt keep jags with any other cichlid? Or anything else for that matter... I thought they were extremely territorial... Maybe im misinformed... Heres a pic of my jag in his tank... I think it might be stressed a bit :screwy:

i think it's all about conditioning the jags. if the jags was raise by itself from juvie stage then introduce to tankmates at an adult age, then i think it'll be a problem. right now i have to jags with 2 O's, JD and A.bumblebee cich. and they're doing all fine. they're all about the same size 7-8"(except the bumblebee). although i've heard that they do get very territorial when they're fully grown, but i think it really depends on the fish, and the conditioning of it.

my first pair i bought. the female got killed by the male one day for no reason . Didnt realy keep them long enuf to get any aggression out of them. i got one batch of fry from them then the femalegot killed month or solater. then i went to florida caught me my florida jag pair. brogutht them back had them breeding in a month and a half and they ate pellets fresh in the tank after 1500 mile ride. I then gave away my first bought Male i had to a friend, He has it in a tank with oscars jackdempsee, and somembunas no agression at all.

My florida jags never got mean nasty or aggressive unless they were breeding and even then as long as the other fish in the tank didnt get near the eggs they were fine. iN may or june my 150 got busted and during the move of all my fish from the 150 to the 75 somewhere along lines the maleflorida jag jumped out the 75 and died. Long story short month ro so latter allthe fish except my femaleflorida jag died from a powerfailer

Now i have the female in a 75 with three bichirs my male jag from the first spawn from the bought pair of jags i had, apolleni, african lungfish , and a comon wolffish. Now everytime i try to introduce another cichlid they wont have it and beat the crap out of it go figure. the jags and polleni will tag team any cichlid i stick in there. but everything else never botherd. it realy depends on the fish there suroundings and temperments.

Well theres a fish store around here with a decent sized tank when you first walk in thats like two corner tanks put together... one side with a ton of angels and the other side with a couple of oscars, one jack dempsey, two large common plecos, one clown knife, and about a 13" jag... Pretty nice display. He wants $35 for the jag I think...
