Thanks...looks a little questionable... i have the two in a 120 gallon tank which as i mentioned had a divider that i took down when the female showed she was ready to lay eggs.. at about that time the male started ignoring food and was going through spawning motions on his side....they each have a t connector pvc at opposite ends of the tank that were their hangouts...the female chose to lay eggs at his end and they spawned in his pvc...what has me wondering is that the female is back on her side and the male is alone with the eggs fanning them...i can see they both got rough with each other as they each have slight fin damage... I got these fish from totally different sources at different times months apart.... I wonder that maybe the male is more mature than the female and that her parental instinct a not fully developed yet even though she was mature enough to lay eggs and/ or that they got too rough and she decided to go back on her side ....I thought most of the role of caring for the eggs and freeing wigglers from the egg was the females and she is nowhere near them now so I don't know how this is going to go....

Thanks Dial92...No other fish in the tank except for the jags... I would just feel more comfortable if it was the female Fanning eggs rather than the male... And I hope he doesn't go into defense mode against the female... I got the divider ready but you know what happens when you leave the house... I do not want to have any fatalities....

Hey there! My Jaguars have spawned several times successfully and it was the same thing. The male always seemed to be the one doing the most. Even chased away the momma a few times. Same thing with maturity as well. Our male was much bigger and two years older than our female so I'm sure that might have something to do with it. And if they only got a little rough then you are lucky! My Jags would completely fight each other in the process of mating. So much that their lips were completely ate up!!! The one thing to remember is they spawn in two separate batches. The first batch is slightly smaller in numbers and then 4 weeks later they will spawn again. At that point either the parents will eat the first batch to protect the second batch or the first batch will eat the second batch. We waited two weeks then netted the fry and moved them into a tank of their own. Also remember that the more they spawn the more the numbers will go up. Meaning the first batch we had was roughly 200 and about 20 made it through. By the last batch which was their 4th they laid at least 600 eggs and we had 70 make it. Hope that helps :)
