jaguar cihlids.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep mine with a Texas and a Hartwegi, and they get along fairly well.

I tried housing a 8" male jag with a 7" oscar in a 125g for a week. Each day the jag started taking over more and more of the tank by the end of the week he had the entire tank controlled, I had to put up a divider because on the last day he kicked the crap out of the oscar.

i just re-arranged my 100 gallon and put in a red mota, male jag, female festae and a paratilapia polleni. they are around 4" to 6" now. as they get larger i'll thin the tank out... but i wanted to see how things go. so far things are ok. actually aggression levels are lower than i expected.

my breeding pair of jags are fine in my 210 with two florida gars, a midas, an oscar and an asian red tail cat, a little chasing every now and then for food and from getting too close to the fry but nuthing serious or close to it yet
:D

male is about 8-9" and female is about 5.5"

prob just me watching them tooo much......he neverhas ever had a prob until i moved out some of the plastic plants but they all seem happy again now all swimming <schooling togther at mo>:grinno:
got one oscar<9-10inches at 1year old....one oscar at 8 inches at 10months old...one jaguar at 7-8inches at 5.and a half months..green terror at 5 inches<jack demsey at 5inches<hoplo at 5inches<gibbicep at 24inches...:nilly:

i am going to try to put my jag with my midas thats 1in. smaller but way bigger in a 250 with a few others . if that doesnt work i'll just setup a 125 for breeding.

Way back, I kept a decent size male jag and midas in a 125. It was an awkward uneasy truce most of the time, each staying on one side of the tank. But they didn't actually fight too much. For a while (>1 yr. living together), it was okay but eventually I had too seperate them. My midas was 1 inch smaller as well.

i find that keeping jaguars in a community works best, if there is only one, if you have 2 that are breeding, i'd keep them in a seperate tank, because they'll maul everything else.

I have a breeding pair in a community tank they just spawned so i have about 200-500 right now. There with oscars, knifes, gars, eels, clown loaches and other misc stuff. The female is 8" the male is 13-14" the other male is about 10".
