Over the rainbow
I've realized live gold fish and minnows for basically all fish is a risk but how about crickets? My jaguar cichlid is a very picky eater and the only food I've got him to take a bite here and there are flowerhorn pellets, crickets, and occasionally cichlid gold. Do crickets also carry diseases harmful to my jaguar? Also are crickets good in nutrition ? thanks

Forget the unusual stuff and just get a good pellet. If you want to treat them, try raw shrimp or scallops. For what it's worth crickets work. No disease. Just a pain in the ass to go get and keep.

yeah i mean my petstore is close by so its no problem for me to just go out and get some when im running other errands but it was a pain in the a** when i had my chameleon and lived farther from petstore so had to travel 30 min every week to his crickets, as i wasnt going ot raise them and risk them getting out and having to search the entire house for that elusive chirping cricket:nilly: but yeah they are good nutrition, def do a pellet as staple and then you can treat with crickets, worms, or diff frozen seafoods like mentioned above

I'd stick to a good pellet staple (or combination of two) and treat to some shrimp or scallop as Mo suggested every week or two. your tank will stay cleaner and he'll get the nutrition he needs.

crickets are a good occasional food, but you need to wean the jags onto accepting pellets on a consistent basis.

My jag is pretty picky and basically will only eat floating Hikari Cichlid pellets but he does love crickets and earthworms as treats.
