Jaguar + Green Terror ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You guys really have the wrong attitude here. Weedamese your first comment was ridiculous, it promotes bad fish keeping. However the rest of you guys (bar shamrock) attacked him into a state of defensiveness. What he has done for that jag is a very good thing. As he said the fish is getting a lot healthier and he is doing water changes everyday to ensure that. As for the 30g, not every one can afford a 100g tank every time they get a new fish. I certainly wouldn't put a sick jag in a tank with other fish then medicate that tank. Weedamese, make sure when you rehome this jag it goes to a good home or your efforts will be wasted.

Now to jarbunny's question. I suggest you don't get another firemouth because one will bully the other, a group might work. I would get a group of severums and a slightly smaller GT. When they all get bigger get a tank big enough to accommodate them all. Then if the GT gets too aggressive you can keep him in the 70g by himself. Sell the rtc now he will most likely devour your fish by the end of the month. My 6" rtc ate a 3" fire mouth with no problems and I though it was too big.

Tim-I feel the same way you do about the RTC devouring the fish-good point. And I agree with you that sometimes we (at times myself) tend to word our statements a bit harshly-not saying that I fully agree with what Weedamese is doing but it is not neccessary to make comments like "are you ridiculous" Personally, I wouldn't put a large Jag (even if I was helping it) in a 30 gallon-an alternative could be to contact a friend who has a larger empty tank -being that you love cichids I'm sure you would know of people who could help.

Hope no one takes offense of my opinions cause at the end of the day it's just my opinion-on a positive note I think this site is very informative and a lot of folks on here know what they are talking about!

what do you guys want me to do hospital him in a 120G?
Erm, yes...?

...no matter what we say or do there will always be people who will buy the fish anyways...
This argument seems to imply that since success is unattainable we should just give up. However, consider: there will always be child abusers, drink drivers, serial killers etc., but since we can't stop them, should we just give up on those issues too?

Did I just catch the faintest scent of hypocrisy here...? It seems that you can criticise him but when others do so, it's 'attacking'. Interesting.

you know... I have to say that some people know what they're talking about all the time and others just simply THINK htye know what they're talking about and are actually so Ignorant that they brush aside any attempt to help correct their warped view of this great hobby. I could feel my face burning while reading the first 5 posts in this thread

MANY THANKS to -XR_, Twhittle, Balton, and Marc28016 - you guys got it right. There is no way a 13 inch Jaguar should be inside a 30 gallon which is ONLY 12" wide! Never mind how long it is THE FISH CAN"T TURN without flipping over :WHOA::grinno::grinno:

AND...this is a HOSPITAL TANK!?!? weedamese The best thing you could do for that fish, as already stated, is remove it from your care and put it in at least a 55 to heal it up. That is only to heal it NOT for life.

Jarbunny, listen....If I were you I'd read as much about SA/CA cichlids as you can find for at least a month or two. That's what I did before buying my first SA/CA cichlid. You should find species like Firemouths and GT's will fit that 70 gallon tank pretty well FOR LIFE. BUT there are certain ways to make this work. As you probably know you don't throw em in and see what happens just because "Hey its your tank". Thats not what this hobby is about. Most fishkeepers (as opposed to fishHAVERS) see that the health and proper care of the fish is priority 1. This means proper water changes, diet, and compatible tankmates. Don't impulse buy. READ first. I promise you won't regret it. You'll also save yourself a small fortune and a few headaches.

And for GOD's sake don't take any more advice from guys like WEEDAMESE. :screwy: There is no science behind such rediculous claims

Take your time and enjoy your fish. GOOD luck bud!!

P.S. Weedamese I know you'll fire back with something less than creative but don't expect a response from me because I'd prefer not to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man ;)

^^ I'm done with this thread anyways. What i've done for this jag has been great so far. Whatever, flame all you want. Remember he was going to be thrown away anyhow. all that matters is before he came home to me he was unwanted and now wanted i already have some pms asking for him. nuff said

I think it's okay because I saw a jaguar with a GT at my local petsmart. (which is the GT I have now) Any way they looked fine. They were about 2.5 inches each. I don't know about when they grow up though.

I'm sorry to tell you this but your totally wrong. Like I said his first post was out of order, we agree on that. I don't agree that anyone should be knocking him for what he has done with that jag. All we know for certain is he had two options, 1) Leave the fish to suffer and die in an LFS or 2)Take it home and offer it the best care you can with the available recourses until it is healthy. Tell me which would you choose. I'm sure if one of your 'crew' did the same as him you'd be like "hey great save".

If one of my "crew" did the same thing, i would not be like "Hey, great save.". I ould be like, "You freaking moron. You cannot provide that Mana adequate quarters. What about that woman who walked in three hours later looking for a Managuense and whom could provide the fish with adequate living conditions......" Let's face it, realisticly the fish is no better off where it is now. And this bloke has deprived this fish of it's right to have that oppertunity.
