I got a jaguar cichlid about 1 1/2 ago and he was darker in color and eating good at about 4inches. Now he shows alot lighter color and red eyes when challenging the yellow lab. He doesn't fight back with the yellow labs just shakes to show hes made. Im just worried because he doesn't rly eat because he is so focused on the yellow lab.

my red devil i got at the same time and eats a ton. omega one pellets krill feeders. The pellets just bounce off the jags face. Can he stress himself to death?? his eyes stay red almost all day now because of staying near the yellow lab.

jag still 4 1/2, yellow lab 5 inch adult
Man, after a year and a half that Jag should be triple that size. It sounds like it is stunted. A Jag can't live a long and healthy life in a 55gal. alone and especially not with tankmates. The Red Devil is in the same boat. These cichlids require bigger tanks. Jags are territorial cichlids so it will try to keep the other fish from its area. Try feeding it some bloodworms or hold back feeding a bit. It won't starve itself. Hopefully it's not sick.

haha my bad i meant a month and a half. I got the red devil same time and he eats alot and is getting bigger.

Ok. You had me worried there for a second. But this combo will only last successfully in a 55gal for 2 or 3 months for the reasons that I already mentioned. Jags and Red Devils grow very quickly and so does their aggression. . The Jag could be stressed if the tank is too small and populated for it to maintain a territory or if it is in consatnt competition.

ya i thought it would be ok until he reached 7inch then i was pulling him out. I was way over stocked with 14 because i didn't know better. now im down to 7. I know i need to lose atleast 2 more now but they are all pretty small. Its just funny because all the other fish are fine and the water is good. I didn't think tank size would matter until he got alittle bigger.

I love this hobby its just hard because my wife hates it lol. she said i just do fish stuff all the time haha. If i had it my way i would buy a 150g and put the jag in there. My wife is more important though :(
