Anyone know where I could find a couple of these guys? I am thinking about getting a couple to put in my 90g. Prefer them to be pretty small, 1-3 inches.

A local fish store has had a couple of Jags in a tank at around 1-2 inches but they have been that small for around 6-7 months. I feel like they dont feed them or something. Would those guys be a healthy enough to be a good buy or would extended period of time with malnutrition be detrimental to their health in the long run?

Take a look in the media lounge, Petsmart has some great little Jags $2.99 can't beat it.

My petsmart or petco does not have any. Any opinions on my LFS's jags?

Thanks for site importracer, you spelled wrong but I know where to go. lol

IMO if they been 1-2" for the last 6 months I'd pass on them look elsewhere you can find Jags are all over.

On Jeff Rapp's site he has motaguesne and managuesne. Can anyone tell me the difference as well as recommendations?

The motaguesne is detailed as...Rio Copan ‘red tiger’.

jaguars are the managuense, motaguense are another fish in the parachromis family but look quite different. google pics for "red tiger mota" and you will see the difference. if you only have a 90g and don't plan on upgrading and you want a pair then i would go for the motas because a jag pair will definitely need a bigger tank eventually

Both are Parachromis and in that sense very similar, Motas are smaller males about 10-12" tops Jags get bigger males 16" max avg so comes down to tank size what if anything else you want to try and mix with them. Both are beautyful fish niether will disapoint you, I'd go with the Mota if the tank ia 75 or 90 gals if you have a bigger tank a Jag is a good option. Do a Google search lots of discriptions and pics out there for both.

PS, Sara just saw your reply as I posted mine, we said almost the same thing!

Cool, thanks guys. Female motas look similar to female festae which is pretty cool.

I do really like jags though. How long do you think a pair could last in a 90g? I will be moving to a more permanent location where I can have bigger tank in about a year and a half.

In a year and a half those Jags will be a foot long two in a 90 is a bad idea IMO. get a pair of Motas or one Jag.
