Jaguar not eating and heavy breathing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is just him and a moray eel in the tank. It does sound like Planaria worms, but do they bore into your fish? These worms in my tank are really tiny and will not be picked up on any camera, will get my Aunts Camera tomorrow and will try post pics of my jag. Thanks guys, this is so frustrating. :wall::wall::wall:

No, Planaria will not bore into your fish. They feed on excess waste in aquariums. They are basically harmless. Too many are a sign of too much waste and not enough cleaning and water changes. If there are worms in your Jag's body, they are something far more harmful. I just don't know what worms he has. It could very well be Anchor Worms. If they are, you need to treat the Jag and the tank immediately. You'll have to find an appropriate medication that treats external parasites. I don't have much experience with eels so I don't know how medication effects them. And Stop introducing goldfish to your tank. They could be the cause of this. If you must use feeders for your eel, breed them yourself in healthy conditions. I still say goldfish hold little nutritional value. Try breeding Convicts or some other fish that will provide a more healthy option.

alright thanks alot Gruff, im also not sure if i can call these "white markings" worms as yet. . .but Ill try get those pics. Thanks

ummm what type of "moray" are you talking about? there are NO freshwater morays despite what some lfs will try to tell you. and like others have said goldfish are just fattening and riddled with diseases, if you absolutely must feed feeders breed your own guppies or something but really weaning both the jag and the eel onto pellets and frozen would be a lot healthier in the long run. and even for 8months that is small for a jag that size, they are very fast growers and should average at least an inch a month when younger, so yours should optimally be at least 9in assuming you got it when it was only 1in long and that is almost 23cm...can you tell us more about the water parameters? if its not external parasites could it possibly be his slime coat peeling? what type of dechlorinator do you use and do you know if you have large pH swings in your tank? if his condition is already affecting his eating then we definitely need to figure out what it is quickly so you can treat him right away

We are gathered here tonight (South Africa) /day (USA) to say goodbye to one of my BEST friends, JiMMY the Jag has past away and has gone to a better place. He will be missed. RIP JIMMY.
