I have a 4 inch jaguar cichlid she is not eating and I have only seen her eating a whole fish about two days ago. I have seen her pick up stones in her mouth and then spit them out will she be OK. I feed my fish, cichlid pellets, flake, frozen food and frozen fish?

p.s.the fish i have are:

7-8inch Oscar
6 inch tinfoil barbs
and 11 inch clarius catfish along with the jag

sounds to me like she is fasting and is going to lay eggs. or already did. they usually dont eat around that time. have you seen her tube out? also does she have a cave or something she is hiding in or guarding? with no male you wont have babies of course. and i dont think oscars can breed with jags. although that would be pretty cool.

I've never seen any Parachromis, jag or otherwise, capable of laying eggs at 4".

A couple of days without food is nothing to worry about. Try switching up the diet. Try frozen bloodworms, nightcrawlers or market shrimp cut into bite size pieces (no shells, they'll get stuck).

mine has been breeding since she was 4 inches. maybe 4 1/2. she laid eggs before that. it has stunted her growth i know. but i got them as a breeding pair. every time i seperate them they both go crazy and kill or attack all other tank mates, decorations, etc. she is only 5 1/2 inches now and she has 2 to 3 batches of fry a month.

Sounds like quite the prolific breeder you got there. Never seen one capable of egg laying at that small size. The earliest any of mine have layed eggs has been around 5".
