Yes do that! I like Oscars but I couldn't dump my big male Jag for anything. Get him a girlfriend and that will liven the tank up.

I had an Oscar in a 100 gallon tank
Since he was 3 inches
Now he's about 8 inches
I've added a jag smaller then the Oscar , at first they got along fine
After a week the jag just shredded my Oscar and silver aro
Long story short the jag is back at the store

i also think getting your male a girlfriend is a good idea. I also would like to try keep a jag with a 2 oscars one day but when i do it i plane to the the O's first let the grow up a bit the add the jag and see if it works out? ill have another tank on hand anyway so if the jag gets nasty there will be an option for him to have his own tank. You do hear of people keeping O's with jags but it just comes down to the personality of the fish and tank size also plays a part in it.

Save up some money. Or look on cragslist for a very cheap growout tank. Youll get good deals if it aint a scam haha
