i am told by the person I acquired these from that the Honduras jags, that would be the female have more or some what different patterning than the costa rican water shed jags, the male. if tank bred more than likes a mix between the 2 so (shrug)

Here's my female jag that's the size of a 300 watt heater lol. How do I tell? I can't tell you. Only reason I know its a female is cause when I bought her about 5 years ago she was with her fry that she was raising. The owner said he just bred her and didn't have any room for her so I decided to take her for 25 bucks and he kept the fry.

Edit: I think you have a male, just by looking at the mouth I see a male imo. I'm probably wrong but that's what I think. Male jags are significantly smaller than females and females have a wider more pronounced mouths that almost look like underbites.

i'm pretty sure thats a male

Erm mines definitely sure its a female. Shes about 17 inches and males just don't get that big. Owner of the lfs bred this jag multiple times and sold fry all over my state. Only reason I know its a female though lol.

Its the male jags that are bigger in size mate females stay smaller , yours looks male due to its pattern and size here's a few pics of my breeding pair uploadfromtaptalk1404719219361.jpg males on the left of PIC uploadfromtaptalk1404719295863.jpguploadfromtaptalk1404719324893.jpg
there's a lot less speckles on the female and more gold colouring
