The old jag cichlids are preparing a spawning site as I type and she looks ready to burst!..I really thought I was going to have to take one back to the shop but seems like love is in the air..Done a large water change yesterday as I had read that it can help in getting them to spawn..it worked!..Quite good watching them dig out their cave and shimmering around each other..will post some pics later..shouldn't be long before she lays the eggs

Some pics of them clearing out their pot..and some of a very chunky female Jag..

It's difficult to say. If this is their first attempt at spawning they quite possibly will have nothing. New cichlid parents will generally have a few dry runs before they get it right. Keep doig the water changes replacing the water with slightly cooler than the established water...then increase the tank temperature by about ten degrees. It'll happen. It wouldn't hurt to have a tank divider handy.

Good luck.

They have both stayed there pretty much all day and seem to take it in turns swimming in the pot and quivering their bodies..then they will go side by side and shake their whole bodies..I take it that this is part of the courting ritual? At first it was just him doing it now she is doing it all the time..and if they do venture out they go together whereas before they would swim around seperately..
