Jaguar tank mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My jag tolerates nothing. Not even me near his tank. He's def a glass banger. It's kind of cool, but unfortunately my Mother almost shot him one night while we were out of town because she thought she heard someone in the house. lol So, I have to re-home him to make sure that doesn't happen again.

i have 3 oscars, a silver arrowna with my jag in a 100 gallon and they all get along just fine

$100 says they arent full grown or probably any bigger than 4 or 5 inches. If they are, post some pics for us to see. A 100 gallon tank isnt big enough for 2 oscars full grown, let alone 3, an arowana and a jag (unless you believe in overstocking and theyre all full grown with not enough room to claim territory or hardly move).

As far as what can go with 3 jags in a 110? Nothing. A 110 is barely enough for a full grown male so, as said above by a few who know what theyre talking about, youll have to get rid of 2 of them or have 2 dead jags eventually (or a pair if youre lucky). In a 110, Severums and Oscars :screwy: wouldnt work..more than likely, no other cichlids at all and youll be lucky to keep a pleco in there with him/her.

It would be a very bad idea to place three Jags in a 110 with large tankmates. It's not only temeperment and territorial disputes that you have to worry about. It's also the quality of your water and the lack of space. There are several cichlids that would do well with a jag given that there is plenty room for territory and swimming. I think you would do ok with a male/female pair. The enjoyment of watching them raise fry is priceless and the babies can be sold, traded, or used as feeders for other fish you may have. A single Jag can be a great showpiece. Keep in mind that these guys can grow 14"+. What you find as empty space now will soon be crammed with too many large cichlids. if you are not planning to upgrade to anything larger, don't get any more large-growing fish. RTC, Oscars, Arowanas are not meant to be housed in a 110 with three jags. Please don't do this unless you are certain that you will upgrade to a much larger tank. You could do a female Festae and one Jag. I would not add a male Festae in a 110 with three Jags. You will have bloodshed for sure.

A full grown jag male will need a 125 gallon alone..I had a male pushing 16 and with his torpedo like speed made the tank look small they are fast movers not like midas, oscars and need alot of room. is the 110 the 4 ft tank and just high?

I personally keep my jag with everything and have done combos that people said are impossible in the past.
As of now he is 15 inches and lives with 2 peacock bass and 2 arowana with NO issues at all.
In the past he has lived with goldfish, Rays and Discus where he actually got bullied -_-, not something i am proud of. So i guess it depends on each fish and a big thing is size. Larger fish seem to be more docile in my personal opinion. I noticed that as my jag got older the possibilities in the tank mate department grew from plecos to almost anything. The only fish he had a problem with was an oscar which was ages ago.

U got a much better chance of housing with tank mates if you raise them together from an early age. If the jag has the tank to himself and then you try adding anything at a later point, your jag won't tolerate it and the outcome is obvious. I only ever buy aggressive fish that have been housed with a lot of other fish, or are very young, so I have a greater chance of keeping a community due to the fish being more used to tank mates. So pick some tankmates now is my opinion

^^ Agree, the smaller they are they more accepting they will be in the future with tank mates but they can turn on each other and any given time, just be prepared for that.
