I recently picked up a 3-4 inch jaguar cichlid from a guy on Craigslist. I have it in a 48x24x31 150 gallon planted tank. What can I put with him/her? I was thinking an Oscar or flower horn or Jack Dempsey or a combination of some of them? Im very undecided.

Planted tanks and cichlids don't really go together. My fish tear up my fake plants. I would try to snatch up another jaguar! IMO Jaguars, Oscars, FH, JD can live together but sometimes due to their aggressiveness they might hurt each other or worse kill each other. I had all of them together at one point plus more aggressive cichlids and all knew their pecking order. I never got a Jaguar or Oscar because they have big mouths and can swallow fish if they wanted. I keep 2-3" fish with 12" Midas/ Flowerhorn so if that was an Oscar and he got hungry or mad he would eat it.

I know planted and cichlids don't really work but the tank was a community planted tank a few weeks ago. I figured why not just try and see what happens over time. If everything gets torn up then oh well. And thanks so much for the advice!

I've had cichlids and planted tanks before it will work. Just be prepared to replace your plants fairly often lol.

My jags are ***HOLES. Male and female both, they bite me regularly and bang the glass so hard it makes the dog think somebody is at the front door. I have had zero success with any kind of plant with them. They move rocks and driftwood that shouldn't go anywhere due to the weight. My Oscar Brutus used to be tough before being housed with the female (5") at the time. Then I found the male and a 6 footer wasn't nearly enough tank, the male even broke the divider to get at my Oscar.... glad I was awake or he would've died very quickly, of this I have no doubt.

It is really a matter of trial and error, every gosh is different as you can tell by all the responses. So just go with one thing and watch close and if it doesn't seem to work, try again with something else

depends on a male or female jag. I have had females do great with Oscars and other fish. Not so for a male. This is only with WC, never had tank bread Jags. A large male will eventually flip if not enof dithers around and tank not large enof. both will rip up plants.

I put my male in the 180, with the oscars and no dowt in my mind, the oscars would not last a week, the only fish that be left is the large pleco,.
