Would a male jag do fine in a 75 by himself? absolutely no other fish. I have a 125 I just hate how its kind of scratched up and older then I am. I've been thinking about trading it to an LFS for a 75 considering I don't have $400 to buy a new 125. What do you fish people think?

I have my 16"+ 9 year old male jag in a custom 5 ft x 2.5" 195 gallon and sometimes I think he needs more room. 75 gallon would be the minimum for the short term in my opinion and 180 gallon or bigger is ideal in the long term. I wouldn't go less than 125.

if just the male yes. tho you may need to update in a few years. takes a male around 5 years to reach anything close to the 16"mark on the average, but long as you stay on water changes he will be fine.

I do not disagree with eyespot, idealy you want a 6ft tank or larger for the foot print. mine are in a 145g.

I've done tons of research on jags and I actually had a 7 inch jag a couple months ago but he died. (my fault, wrong silicone when resealing his current tank) I actually purchased the used 125 for him but after resealing it (with the right silicone) and noticing the faults in it more and more I'm starting to hate the tank. I kept questioning what I would feed him when he started getting bigger. where I live you can only get nightcrawlers for some of the year. What do you feed your jags pops?

my 7 year old jag is solo in a 125 and she seems to have enough room and is perfectly happy

I am a aqueon jumbo floating pellet fan, this their main diet. Friday night is protein/vitamin night as water changes are on Saturday and high protein fowls the water up. for that I soak jumbo freeze dried krill in boyds vitachem over night.

I buy the pellets online as no store has them, 10 packs at a time.

good to know, I'll look into that brand of pellets. what do you use the vitachem for?

its a supplement. like vitamins we eat, by soaking them in freeze dried krill they eat there supplement.
