Jaguar vs. dempsey

Flaring JD's look awesome....I really like those rare occasions when you get that JD that isn't shy and can whoop ass when tempted to. It's just that most of them aren't like that.

The COOL JD's turn dark all the time and their pearls really shine..not to mention the red line across their dorsal fin too. When they flare, they are just as cool as a jag. I would love a 12" JD....biggest i've seen in real life was only 9" and that looked cool.

Dang....awesome body shape on that JD! :clap Hope I can raise mine til it's like that!

How long did it take for yours to get that big?

hey scottv thanks, it took a year and and a couple of months for him to get to that size. it really sucked the morning i found him on the floor. i had a tight lid on my 55, till today still dont know how the heck he did it. although i see this devious grin from my cat LOL jk.

I'm gonna grow out my JD in the tank with the Jaguar until it's time to move some fish around. (my betta lives in the 40 gallon alone now! :grinyes: )

The Jag is shy but aggressive against the JD....the JD has his territory and flares back as well! :woot:

The little bully Albino Oscar is really mean and owns them both. It is friends with the big oscar too.

Looking good! The recent out pouring of JD love here the last couple weeks makes me happy. The JD is a terrific fish who gets over looked in the hobby. They take a bit more patience to see growth and color development, but they're more than worth the wait!!

I agree, I just got my 45 high. I cant wait to set it up. I think its bcuz jd have been around so long people are just bored of them. Also I think the whole name thing plays a big part, like wolf cichlid, and red devil, and jaguar, I think people are really turned on by the name, not the fish. Jack Dempsey sounds tough, but most people don't know he was a boxing champion in the 1920's, ya know? I think if a red devil was called a pink angel, people would'nt care as much. I have seriously seen a jack dempsey destroy a jaguar to the point that the jag was hiding in the bottom of the tank, and both were similar in size. it all depends on the fish some oscars whoop ass, and some eat a lot and are chill. I cant wait to see what my jack turns into, maybe chill, maybe a killer, who knows. he's still a kick ass lookin fish.

My first fish was a jd still got him he is about 6 inch my specail lil boy would feed him worms by hand cause he is too slow and small to fight off my rd,jag, and pike. he beats on my gt,slavini and his girl so he has it made also i have a lil girl jd that is a scraper fights with my umbiie
