Jaguar vs jack dempsey?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a jag about 4-5 inch in with 4 oscars ( 2 smaller then the jag and kick his ass) flowerhorn, red terror and sds. The jag is most likely the weakest fish in that tank now that the angels are out, I think jags are all talked up even my breeding pair with fry dont come any where close to my older flowerhorns.

My jacks are a bit smaller and share a tank with umbee, choco and a con and one jack is a bit of a fighter but he always get told off by the umbee.

Id say you would be fine, people over here even keep jags and jacks in oscar/ serv tanks all the time and it goes fine long as the tanks not a midget. They mind there own business more and wont attack anyone else they come to there little area or hits them first from what I have seen, else you have 2 jags that causes some issues. you wont be able to find out until you try it, Maybe I have crazy luck but I have 5 inch vieja living with a 24 inch jardini and I bet if you asked that Q here everyone would say no lol.

a 24 inch jardini with a 5 inch vieja..damn.. my jardini is just abt 11 inches and it recently killed a 6 inch oscar..they r supposed to b really agressive.. has ur jardini been used to staying with tankmates since u bought him?

Yeah My Jar grew up with green horse faces and clowns never touched one even had a few guppys lol they did go missing but yeah could of been anyone. My 24 inch mangrove jack can work with oscars and other fish too but his more if they bite him they end up inside him where the jardini gets attacked and runs away lol my 2inch con is more agro :S

Whenever you add a new fish to an already established tank, it is at a disadvantage even if larger, because the original one owns the tank. Almost all cichlids are territorial. It is "usually" better to add all fish together. Adding them one at a time can be a costly bunch of dead ones.

Jaguars seem to vary greatly on temperment my 11in male has always been mean and bit me for the first time durring tank cleaning @3 in i mean bit and held on. Now he is way worse. My old jaguar on the other hand was very docile i miss that one.

I've had a 2 inch jd with my 3.5 JAG in a 55 gallon and they did fine but the JAG and 3.5 inch male convict always went at it . I guess he just never saw the jd as a threat . I would do it just watch them. Plus in a 125 I think it will be good.
