Jaguars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All depends on the temperament of the Jag and size of it's home, mine's in with all sorts, Pacu, RD, GT, Dovii, Barbs, Clarius Cats, TSN, Perruno, etc and it get's on fine with all of them.

helps to know how big the tank is . . . assuming a very large tank - - say 6x2x2 - - I would feel safe in trying Texas, Oscar, Salvini, Festae, Midas . . .

could also try several Convicts, Rainbows or other tough smaller cichlids
It's a 6x2x2.
I was thinking of a jag,oscar,and a jd,or texas.Then some pictus,and some smaller plecos.
I'm just not sure if 3 large,territorial/aggressive fish should be tried in a 180 or not.

quite honestly you need to try for your self what will work in the tank because we do not know the temperment of your fish. My jag seemed to do well with dovii, texas, almost any vieja species but could not stand plecos or catfish. Also this is after multiple tries of trying to get things to work and eventually it did.

How big of an aquarium do you have?

i have a GT, SEV, Gost Knife couple convicts 3 Rainbow cichlids, parrot 4 Silver Dollars and big eyed catfish with mine.
He is still small 7" or so but there is no props at the moment.
Tank is 150 gal at the moment.

im guessing other sa/ca cichlids in a rather large tank
I have had larger convicts in there, but they spend a lot of time hiding. I have two in a 100 gallon tank, and finally found a female that the male dosn't try to kill. When I introduced her in the tank, they were digging a nest within 20 minutes. Now I have eggs. Some have turned white? Hmmm. But usually my large male (like most jags) sees other fish in two ways. If it fits in his mouth, it's food. If it dosn't, it's a fight.

unless you running a 300g pluss tank, nothing with a mated pair. A females do ok, but males, naa, eventually someone is going to get wacked.

In that tank you could try a texas, convicts with hiding spots, or a vieja. You could try several really. If he doesnt like someone they'll probably descaled so just be prepared.
It takes years, but males get huge. I'm not sure in 5 yrs if you'll have enough space to keep others out of jeopardy.

Smaller tough as nails cichlids are my go to. I give them some cover and they are usually agile enough to stay out of harms way. A neet will survive a holocaust

can try all kinds of things, the key word here is "TRY" and good luck with that. :)
