Do the JDs easier, good breeding color and lot less likely to kill each other.

I introduced a Butti male to my tank and with in seconds he paired up with my Texas female and where ready and willing to defend and kill all intruders. So who knows, you may get lucky and they take to each other right away. Or not and it may take some time or never work. But "nothing ventured nothing gained"... So go for it.

Agree with this. Don't settle for a JD, get a male jag and try for yourself. You've got the tank space for it

make sure you have a way for the female to COMPLETELY escape if he gets mad wether it be a divider that only she can fit through or an ornament/pvc pipe. after that crank the heat up to like 84 then cut down on feeding. that's what I was told to do to initiate thier breeding behavior.
 
Funny thing is at the closest LFS to my house there is a 7 inch JD male and 5 inch Jag female, if I had an extra tank running id totally give it a shot
