The Moon
So my uncle Mark and Grandfather live together up the road. i never really go there anymore seeing as my sick grandmother now lives with us. Uncle Mark did some bad things and is now is jail for 6 months (as of early august). Uncle Mark kept a 55 with 2 small bullhead catfish and a bluegill. He kept it really nice, fish were healthy but starting to get big, a day he was dreading, but he never got the chance to euthanize them, because he went to jail. I went up there like a week after to remove the fish because i knew my grandfather couldnt keep the tank running as smoothly as my unlce did or at all. he said no i can do it, water changes, feedings. and when they get TOO big ill take em out and kill them. I said fine (figuring he was going to do it). He comes down to my house today. "Boy, go have a look at the tank the fish are acting funny." So a quick bike ride up the road to find 2x 15 inch bullheads and a 6 inch bullgill in the nastiest tank ive ever seen. It smelt like hell in a tank, it was horrible. The fish had died.

RIP 2x 15 inch bullhead catfish
1x 6 inch Bluegill

moral of the story:
Weak old men cannot upkeep 55gal native tanks

lesson learned. After i get everything cleaned up im figuring he might give the 55 to me. Only + in this situation though.

I did some time.
I just did a big water change in all tanks (40-75 gal) the day before I left, put all the filters I had to use (mostly Rena Xp3) and stuffed all tanks with filter material and some plants. My whife fed them small doses daily and my friend did a 50% water change monthly. When I came home few months later I found all fish healthy and LOTS of fry, the tanks needed gravel vacuming and filters cleaned but water was good in all tanks. This shows that well managed tanks with good filteration can go a long way with minimum care.

Damn....rotting fish smell is no picnic! I can imagine your woes :(.

Too bad MINIMUM care wasnt provided, no water changes or vacuuming nothing but a worm dropped in the feed the fish, filter material wasnt cleaned or changed. I was really disappointed, fish are so beautiful and to see 3 of them laying there dead really broke my heart.

Add another charge: Animal cruelty.
