Jakob's Polypterus collection!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It must have something to do with the amount/type of food they're given. I gave my polys a loach to eat 3 months ago, the loach is 3 inches long compared to my smallest poly of 6" and they dont eat it. I hear all sorts of talk about polys eating other polys but i have yet to experience it.

Nope, trust me, my fish are always fat and are fed all kinds of food except for live food, the get frozen bloodworms, nls, shrimps and much more, it is different with small polypterus, so very different. Also with the least aggressive species like senegalus. The del was just a tad too small.

yeah, sucks. The Del was 5" and thick, but the congi is solid 13".

I wonder what factor turns them into cannibals though? Ive got finger thin senegals living peacefully amongst fist thick endlis and laps with no concern. Maybe it just comes down to individual personality?

Yeah, i think its both about the individual and the conditions it grows up in.
This Congi is wild caught and has probably eaten hundreds of live fish.

But i have a question about how to convert a lap from shrimps to pellets. I have show tons of patience. Actually it has been 3.5 months since i have fed shrimps so it hasn't eaten since. Finally i broke today and fed a bunch of shrimps, he went nuts and ate a few. He doesn't even show interest or sniff the pellets, just sits there while all the other polyps are munching..
I NEED HELP!

Also it is clear now that the congicus is a male, he has been flexing his anal fin like crazy. :D

My laps also refuse to eat pellets so i stopped fighting them, I put a wide variety in front of them and let nature do the rest, they seem happy and healthy though.

Yeah im gonna do the same i think, at least for a while to fatten him up. My other lap eats pellets like there is no tomorrow.;)

Just sold 5 polys.
1x Lapradei
2x Palmas Polli
1x Senegalus

1x Congi
1x Endli
1x Sen
2x Pollis
1x Palmas
1x Lap
1x Ornate
