What are your thoughts on using Japanese matting in a canister?

I'm going to need some new coarse foams for my Sunsuns the next time I open them up and this stuff caught my eye.

My thinking is that if it's effective in ponds as mechanical and biological filtration then surely it should work in a canister?

I can get some for less than the sponge I usually use so there doesn't seem to be a downside unless I'm missing something?

Havnt tried japmat in canisters but in sumps and they tend to clog easier then regular foam. But thats my experience other may have other.

I was thinking it might clog as it looks a bit finer than the 20ppi sponges I use.

I also spotted something called Eheim Fix that looks like coarse floss so was thinking that could work.

In my sunsuns i use the standard sponge that came with it and a thin layer of floss over each basket with biomedia.
