A few shops around here can stock these for me but when trying to find out info, nothings coming back as a Japanese smooth hound. Is there any other common names it goes by?

I've seen plenty of grey smoothhound sharks but never anything sold as a Japanese species.

Cheers. I've only found 2 shops in England that can actually get me a Smooth Hound, I've asked them for a Grey Smooth Hound and they've come back saying we can supply you with a Japanese Smooth Hound.

Going to try get some scientific names tomorrow.

Triakis scyllium ?? Sometimes they are sold as Japanese leopards or banded hound sharks.

Good call... I've actually seen that species before.

I did some digging, and I gotta say, this is a wicked cool species. I did see a pair at a distributor's warehouse last year, and they're stunning. In the words of Ferris Bueller "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.... it is so choice."

That said, means in this case would be a tank big enough for a five foot shark...

Banded hounds are great sharks! Pretty much the same as the cali leopard minus the pattern. I actually have two of these for sale right now around the 12" size if anybody interested pm me. I posted a video of these sharks awhile back. There's 3 members on here that go them from me.

If you got them in NY you may have the pair I saw... is it a male/female pair?
