I am considering getting a Jardini after my silver arrow took a leap from his tank in the middle of the night. I like the fact that jardinis rarely get DE, but im worried about aggression.

The jardini I am considering is currently around 6" which will make him the smallest member of the tank but I am worried that when he grows he will snap as I have read from others.

Tankmates include but will not be limited to

Oscar
Polypterous
Florida Gar
Texas Cichlid
Common Pleco

what are your expert opinnions? Are these sort of fish aggressive enough to defend themselves?

Even at 6" the jar is gonna be a sob. And it only gets worse as it grows.

I see the jar killing the oscar and the cichlid. The common pleco and polypterus MIGHT be fine. The gar can defend himself. Some jars are so aggressive there are no tankmates. Big bottom, immobile fishes should be fine. Big catfish, big plecos, etc.

the gar CANNOT defend itself from a pissed off jar, not much can. i havent found a "nice" jar yet, although im trying right now raising a jar from 3" in a 180 with tankmates up to 19". the jar is at 5" and starting to claim more and more territory.

Myth. Not all jars are pissed off sobs. I successfully kept my jar with bichirs and a Florida gar. He was 17 inches btw. No aggression what so ever.

its been at the lfs for a few weeks and its in a tank with several cichlids etc many of which are smaller than it. but its 6" which IMO is pretty small

My Jar tolerates bichirs and bichirs only, he's killed at least 3 pbass and abused some SA cichlids as well...

my jar cohabited with a bunch of bichirs. Not much aggression, although i think there wasn't any only because bichirs are sedentary and like logs.

Ooo ok. Are the cichlids beat up in the tank? Before I bough my jar it lived with other cichlids with no problems. But if you're Worried about other mid top awimmers stick with bottom dwellers like bichirs catfish etc
