my jar is kept with angels and convicts n jd's there's no aggression in the tank. the jar is now a little over 9inches. he was thrown into the community tank around 5inches? had the jar since he was 3 inches. back when he was alone in a tank he would eat feeders now he doesnt even bother with small fishes. though he still looks like a killa

awww how cute lol

People keep giving Jar a bad rep, when they're the one who doesn't understand the fish. The aggression in any type of arowanas are pretty much the same. It's not the arowana that starts the fight. It's the tankmate that starts the fight, but unable to finish it. The way arowana fight or attack is launching itself into the opponent like a torpedo. With black or silver, due to the long body, it will slow them down in launching or turning, while in Jardini, Leichardti or Asian aros, the shorter body will give them more speed, yield more force when they knock their tankmate. When the arowana is 4-5 inches or less, they can only cause damage to fins and scales, but when they're 8" or bigger, you can bet that they'll break some bone, cause some internal damage when they knock the common sense out of their tankmate.

My 12 inch Jardini will not let any of it's tank mates out to swim freely and my Jar starts the fights. My Jar goes out of his way to chase and confront any of it's tank mates that come out of their hiding spots, it even fronts my Dovii and Red Tiger Motaguense while they are in their hiding spots...My friend has two Jars in two different tanks, they're both around 12-13 inches, and one of them is extremely aggressive. Over a 5 month span, it has killed 4 of it's tank mates including a pleco and a earth eater Jurupari. I really doubt that the Pleco or the Jurupari started the fight with the Jar. With a Jar it really is up in the air in terms of how aggressive they will be because my friend has one that is extremely tame and shares a tank with numerous of tank mates with no problems and the other is extremely aggressive and lives in the tank by it self now. I also believe that whether your Jar is a male or a female will also determine aggression, with males being more aggressive and females being less.

i just added a 5 inch african arowana too =D
