my understanding too is that they are the same, according to the asian aro books i have. Malaysian Gold is xback, and Indonesian Gold is RTG.

in dark_knights_99's post, #4 should probably be something like this, though i'm no expert.
4. green/yellowtail/1.5 red (hybrid)

Yup it is but I was told that in the Philippines, some lfs label their aros under different name hence the confusion to some. Mahato gold from Indo is also a RTG. There are many names that are confusing to the unfamiliar but the basic strains are still the same. For example, Pahang Gold, Malaysia Gold, Bukit Merah Blue etc. are all xbacks, some with different base color or slight variance etc. but remain the same basically.

Well, as long as they guy can differentiate the asians form the australians arowana that's fine with me.

@Chaos32 - yeah, its really quite confusing at times, even i get confused from time to time. They should have a universal name for the different variants of asian arows to avoid the confusion.

It gets more confusing when u get to the actual brand name the individual farms market their aros under. Unfortunately since it's used as a marketing tool, there is no way to avoid confusion except perhaps to keep updating info as to these new names etc.
