i have searched for this topic and couldnt find anything. i know everyone says the 8" mark they go nuts, i get it. but the guys that live where they are native must have tried. some people have luck with them. i mean a tank like you see with all those asian's just packed in.

my jar is at the 9 to 10" mark and it is showing no aggression so far. Hopefully it will stay peaceful but i guess i'll find out. i have it with 2 dempseys 1 thin bar dat. 3 bichers. and a couple catfish. all fish are about the same size

My guess is that to successfully keep jars in a community setting, you'd need two things. First, they'd all need to be kept together from a really, really, really, really, really small size. Second, they would have to have a HUGE
tank, to divide the aggression. I've never tried it though, because I've got nowhere near enough money for that kind of risk.

I read that if you keep the water level low, to just above their backs, it helps keep agression down, and keeps them from jumping too. They also said that you have to keep the density right. These guys had about 10 full grown leis together and another tank of about 25 juvis. Don't know about jars, but it might work for them too.

I can tell u that doesn't work

you dont need a HUGE tank, nor do you need to keep the water level lower.

from my personal experience... i raised a tiny baby jar and kept him occupied with other fish all the time. he was never by himself. my jar is about 12" now and i havent had a problem with him yet and i have 2" indo dats with him.

I read that on a breeders website. They produce thousands of leichardti yearly. Not jars, but I'm sure they know what they're talking about.
