I was thinking the same thing, but decided not to comment, he even said that your from brissy - unless he thinks Vic=Aus :grinno:

i think i should know australia by now LOL been here 23 yrs ;)
i was refering to rs2000 that he was in brissy.
you peepz must get ripoffd alot there come to melbourne where the price is right.

my younger brother(owns an aquarium) tells me yes leis arent common to find but alot of customers prefer buying jars he says they sell faster. thus jars are more common. funny thing is jars cost a little more here. weird huh..:)

supplyand demand, if people are willing to buy them for more and they continue to sell, why not boost the price.

I think it's freaking weird that you guys pay more for jars in it's own home land then we do here in the Us!!! you can get them here for 40-75 for a 6" fish depending on the coloration. (the darker golden/green ones seem to be more expensive then the lighter silvery ones...) If I lived there I'd just go for a ride to where ever you know they live and go fishing!!! I've heard they're fairly abundant and a great fight!! Australia isn't that big... go for a road trip if you have to hahaha Miguel drove from Portugal to the UK and back to pick up an Asian Aro!

Are you remembering that there is a currency difference between out two countries. Also USA about 9.6 million sq km where Australia is 7.6 million sq km, not that much smaller esp when you consider the shape of both countrys, USA being more box shaped except at the bottom and Australia being more oval shaped meaning less land mass.

Yeah, I thought about the currency diff. after I posted... And I really didn't know the land mass deal but I didn't think that you would have to drive the entire distance to catch a jar... Do you have any clue what the currency % is?

   Actually,I didn't think we were much larger than New Zealand in land mass.J/K

A road trip here can be pretty big!And I bet our roads aren't up to scratch compared to alot of other countries. We have a huge land mass with a smaller population to pay for it all.

I've never seen a Leich for $40 at no shop. Even private sellers sell them for atleast $50. Other then that i'm not saying you cant get them for that price

The going price for juvenile Jars are ~$90 - $150 and Leichs are ~$70 - $90

Nova, save yourself the money and troubles and go with a Leich comm. I have seen it done with my own eyes and there is no way a Jar comm will work, as you have seen from the replies here. Once they hit the 8" mark they totally change their attitudes.

Good luck with what ever you choose - if you do get that big tank be sure to post some pics!

Currency is 75c to the dollar (dont quote me), I am going to go to Greenterra's house and get a fish, I be in the area so may as well get a free fish, but it is a full days (24hr) trip home. It is a long distance but Im not even traveling half the country.

Don't know if you have seen this Nova.Thought you'd be interested. His largest Jar is 9" aparently and still working at the moment.I noticed the tank is more aquascaped than most have that have failed, usually being bare tanks..Maybe your thoughts on heaps of driftwood and cover has some credibility, especialy considering the tank size you are looking at.http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76336

So there is hope for me after all, even if he does fail I will still try in the future. How will I truely know if i don't try.
