do any of you guys have had a problem with your jardini eating? i have just a baby 3" long, but i have been feeding him freeze dried brine shrimp, freeze dreid shrimp( broken into smaller pieces), hikari pellets(broken up), and freeze dried blood worms. trying to get a variety of foods for him to eat, but i mihgt be overfeeding him. he takes some of the food and them spits them out sometimes. am i over feeding? i try to feed him 3 times a day.(in small quantities of course)
i also have another question. i want to purchase a silver aro also, but do you think i can put them in the same tank?
thanks for your opinions and output in this matter.

actually when the jars are small you can add tankmates
and you might be able to keep a silver
my jar at the lfs was with sword tails and bala sharks
at that time the jar was 5" and the swordtails were 3.5" and the bala sharks were 5"+

but now my jar is 9"+ and i have had real probs when i tried to introduce any kind of fish in the tank, bottom dwellers as well(keeps taking cheap shots at my cats)

IMO two times a day would be enough
give him some earthworms, and crickets too(as a treat once in a while), mine goes ballistic when i put in worms or crickets

Sometimes the problem with fish eating is they don't feel secure. You did not mention what size tank your jar is in, but make sure tank is spacious with a good amount of cover(floating plastic plants work well). Also young fish do feel better in schools, try getting some platys or swordtails. The added fish will eventually get eaten later on down the road, but will help with your jar feeling secure now.

As for raising a jar and silver together, chances are this will not work. Jardini are know for turning into psycho killers when they hit the 10-12" mark. If your do want to atempt this combo, you must have another tank to move one of the fish into at a moments notice.

i raised a jar and silver from 3'' and the jar eventually overpowered the silver. i got rid of my jar because he even started biting my rays. also when i first got my jar he was very nervous. he will grow out of it.

i started off with my jar at about 1.5-2" and i fed him live black worms. its usually easier to feed jars live food and they dont usually take dry food off the bat from my experience. i just fed him black worms until he got to a decent size and then starved him to take dry food.

as for keeping a silver and jar together. chances are not likely, but you shouldnt have a problem right now. jar wont beat anything up. if you really want to do this combo, IMO from my experiences was to keep the jar occupied with tankmates at all times from a young age. then i added my silver after the jar hit the 6-7" mark, but make sure the silver is about 9". after that, the silver and jar have always been together and the jar is almost caught up in size with the silver, only has like 1-1.5" more to go before he catches up to the silver.

i did add 2 silvers when i intially did this, i put in a 9" and a 7" silver, but the 9" silver beat the hell out of the 7"
