jardini fin rot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with gshock
Something is or was not right with your water recently, or your tank temp is fluctuating too much. Jardini's do not tolerate bad water parameters well. Even a short stay in bad water can effect them and possibly kill them. Jardini's more so than other arowanas have a higher instance of getting septicemia (blood infection) because of bad water parameters.
Do the gill areas look to have any lumps or swollen ?

Stop adding chemicals if your not sure what is going on !
Increasing temp to around 86 and adding a little aquarium salt is ok for a general treatment.

Your in Hawaii, are you using a heater to regulate the temp in the tank ?
What size tank?
How much change water are using?
Are you conditioning it?
Is the change water similar temp to the tank water ?

No his gills look fine.
yes im using a heater, the temp is stable at 81.
125gallon
20-30% every couple of days.
Using prime to condition the water.
New water is usually around 78 degrees or around there.
I feed once a day.

Test your water. Params for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? You might not be changing enough if your aro is still getting fin rot. Flush out your system with some 50% daily water changes. Always try to solve problems at the source rather than covering them up with meds, it'll come back to get you.

My jardini still has fin rot...ive done water changes about 4 times a week at about 20-30% each time. I've been treating with melafix for the past 3 days but the condition hasnt changed at all.
Ammonia : 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10
water temp: ~81

I thought i read that melafix works quickly, is it working but im just not seeing it? Any suggestions?
Water looks good number if not perfect, keep doing what the istruction on the melafix if u still doing that, if I were u I would bump up the temp to 86F and remove carbon filter if u haven't done so and. Let it ride till u see improvement or the rotting stopped.
