true, ...but, its also used water...and its not "clean" at all...using this water would defeat the whole purpose of changing the water at all (your Dats already urinated and pooped in it )..next time just use tap (clean) water and dechlore ;)

my dad use to pump out the "old water" from his discus tank to quarantine any new discus (as water change)

so I took that idea, instead of using tap water, and just use the "old water"

not if the tap water contain ammonia which a tank cant cycle because it lack of benefical bacteria.

I'm sorry, but I'm not really understanding and getting confused.

nevermind about that post, just telling u guys about the tank was cycled, not newly set up and what did I do before the jardini was in

sorry i don't understand :( ...

anyways, the water doesnt hold "benefical bacteria" the filters, substrate, ornaments, glass, everything else holds it.

cycling a tank is as easy as using "seeded" or used filter media from an established tank and using it on your new tank...regardless of used water or dechlorenated tap water.

also, if you removed your RTGG from the tank a few days before adding the Jar...then there would be no BB in the tank b/c there was no bio-load (ammonia) for it to feed on.

no fish = no bio-load = no BB = not cycled...

sorry i missed this...

ammonia lvl in the tap is high, if it doesnt cycle properly, it will kill the fish. My 10G is a bare bottom with only a powerhead, heater and light..

why is there high traces of ammonia in your tap water?

You mentioned no filter for that jar tank. High chance it's ammonia poisoning....

I agree that the water does not have to be changed so often. Also the anchovy is an oiley high fat fish. Crickets and bloodworms would be better for a baby jar. I raised mine from a baby.
