anybody every tried putting a ploy and jardini together? i thinking about gettting a ornate birchir...my jardini is about 23"

Sheesh the quality of replies on this forum seems to have gone down hill...

First and most obvious question [well to me anyway] is; do you keep (or have you kept) any other fish with your jardini, and do you know what its temperament towards other fish is like?

With out an answer to that question anybody who is making suggestions on what to keep with it is really just having a guess. By 23" you should know if your jar is one of those crazy killers that won't tolerate anything in the same tank, or if its a bit more mellow and will co-exist with other fish. If you've never tried keeping it with anything else then you might like to try something faster and cheaper than a large bichir, like tinfoil barbs or silver dollars. Adding a single fish to a tank that the jardini has had to itself for some time is asking for trouble IMO, if the jar decides it doesn't liek the bichir then all its aggression is going to be directed in one place.

Bichirs are pretty much defenseless against large aggressive fish, so if you do decide to try it you should add a pipe or somewhere it can hide away from the jar, and have the facilities to separate it from the jar in case it all goes wrong. You'd want a decent sized ornate, at least 16", and better if its bigger.

As for the clown loaches, you'd need pretty big clowns to avoid predation, although being fast gives them a better chance at getting away from the jar. Another approach would be to add tiny clowns and hope they are too small for the jar to bother eating. I've seen a large tank with a 20"+ rtg and a nearly 2' congicus with about 20 1.5-2" clowns, and because of the size difference the bigger fish just ignored them. Could be expensive if it goes wrong though.

And can you tell us a bit about the tank set up, tank size, filtration, decor etc.

This is the only bad reply I see.
Please read the OP's question over again:D.

wow sweet lol

Very nice Jar, if it is truly 23 inches, then this would be the biggest I've seen to date, what size is your tank? and can you take a full tank picture with the Jar?

you see the 24"ers bro or bigger on japanese sites and stuff

I had a jar in with two ornates but the jar was the smallest of the three. you're talking about adding a small fish into a tank with a large aggressive fish. Maybe it would work if you could find a poly that was at least 12" and feed the jar well right before you add the poly. I've found that if you stuff your aggressive fish before adding new tankmates they temp to leave them alone for at least 12 hours.
