Hey Dustin, Can you give some more info about your fire eel? What do you feed him? Does he eat at the same time as Aros do or wait till later? Does he stay out most of the time like that? Have you provided him hiding places?
I'm asking because I have a fire eel 12", which I'm still struggling to care for properly. I like him very much and want him to grow healthy. Its been one month since I had him, but not seen him eating still. :-(

Well....it's sort of weird for my tank lol cause my aro eat pellets too.

BUT

I try to feed my fire eel every other day(or two), and when I feed it, I feed him mostly fresh shrimp (but also raw meat, salmon fillet when I have left over) thatI buy at the seafood store. When I feed him, it's mostly same time as my jardini . Then after that I throw in pellets for others so my Jardini won't eat much of it cause it full.

No I don't provide my eel hiding places. My eel had a very cool personality. Every time me or someone walk up to the tank, it thinks we're feeding it, so it swims all against the front and top of tank..you know what that means? I have to hand feed him :D (its the only way because if I drop in food, the fire eel has super slow senses so my parrots would take it)

Any more question, feel fee to ask! Thanks hope I explain good about my fish

i had a silver aro and after not eating for 2 weeks, he start attacking my fire eel Both were around 24 inches. The silver dies Now, I have a jardini and no aggression. Jardini seems to be more peaceful.

Yes, they know when it is feeding time and come to the front of the tank. Hangs around there until I'm done feeding. The fire eel doesn't come out at all. :-(

Regardless of your fire eels personality I would recommend adding a decent sized piece of driftwood to your tank, just in case one of your jars decides to go on a killing spree, the eel will have a place to defend himself with.
