Jardini variations...

I've noticed the color varations to some extent, but my lfs just got one of the black ones in for $75 and he's about 6" or so. I've never seen one as dark as him. I'm thinking about scooping him up.

When I was feeding mine wild caught Key West Pink shrimp, his color was a little darker. Pond raised shrimp and scallop do not have as much pigments.

maybe diet has something to do with the colors? :D

KurseD... how did you do that? :D... really jet black

don't really know how he got that dark i got him like that last year. i've seen lots of different variations of jardi's, but when i saw this guy i freaked out. just wish he would have stayed black. he gets really red when he's hungry, but most of the time he's dull grey with red speckles. still my favorite fish though. here are some earlier pics of him still in the bag

:WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA:    WOW!!! Never seen one like that before. I bet if he was in a darker surrounding, he'd go black again. I think surroundings play a very important role in arowana color. Wild silvers appear very dark compared to tank raised for example. I've seen photos of wild leichardti that look like Asians because they lived in blackwater and were very dark.

WHOA!!! :WHOA:

That is freaking awesome. The one at my lfs is nowhere near that black. That would be pretty cool if you could get him back to that color.

i've tried black gravel with black backgrounds but his color still faded. guess its goes with age. i got him for $75 (think they thought he was blind)i had to train him to take food from my hand. was kinda hoping he was blind, so i could comm him with other fish. but he wasn't, just took some training. he's a really mean mofo!!!
