Hey guys,
My 700 gallon tank (see pictures of the design) is currently being inbuilt into the house during renovations. I am trying to determine what I want to stock it with (I have changed my mind a million times and driving my gf crazy!) I will be shifting a few fish from my 220 gallon tank, a large Pearsei, about 4x20-25cm bala sharks and I am pretty certain I will be getting a Aussie Lung Fish once it is done.

I am thinking about getting a Jardini for the tank as other species of Arowana/Saratoga are impossible to get in Australia (at a decent price anyway Silvers cost $400 and up, please dont ask about Asians:(). I prefer the Jardini to the Liechardt.

I have had a Jardini before which got over 20 inches, and was in a community tank with silver sharks, clown loaches a severum, jewel cichlid and other smaller fish. I got him as a fingerling about 2 inches and he never showed signs of aggression when over 20 inches. (just to my fingers when trying to feed him:grinno:)

I dont really want too much aggression in the tank, and will be trying to hunt down a Datnoid for the tank once done, would the Jardini be too aggressive for the proposed stock list?? (balas, pearsei, qld lung fish and possibly a datnoid and some catfish) I will be getting a small fingerling (2 inches) again, which I hope raising him up in a community may help lower aggression like last time, but I know am probably wrong.

Thanks guys

p.s. the plinth in the picture is now finished, and the tank will be installed in a couple of weeks, will post some photos of the build when done, should be a decent set up!! :)

You'll only know by trying, sometimes people get Jardini to work in communities. Many times these attempts end up in disaster. What are the dimensions of the 700g tank? Doesn't look as if you tank would be that big judging by the pic of the stand that has been built.

Is the last pic the dimensions of the tank from above(footprint)?

man you are talented, i cant wait to see the finished house!!
didnt you say you had community jar about 20 inches?
i got a feeling the jar you thinking will be just as friendly as your old jar under your care, i kinda thinking you already knew that answer, and no u will not get confirmation since its pretty much how you take care your fish.
is it the stand the tank will sit on? looks pretty wide to me
what r the dimension, could you try tell us in footage/inch? some people here dont understand meters or cm LOL

Yeah the tank will be approx 700G or 2600L
The size of the back panel will be 300cm (9'10" if you like), the left side will be 70cm (2'3"), the right wall will be 120cm (3'11") and the front panel will be 280cm (9'2"), with a glass panel height of 90cm (3ft) or 95cm. A 3d background will cover 2m of the back wall (basically in front of the room behind the tank)

Was just wanting to know what peoples experiences were with community Jardini, I had mine quite a while ago and never knew they had the reputation they have for aggression as mine was a community boy.

Nice that's gonna be a great tank. Just out of curiosity why go with the odd angle design? Doesn't the glass or acrylic edge need be cut at an angle to make a proper seam?

Seem like most have not gotten the jardini to commune well. Though most attempt in too small of a tank. You keep that 220g to move the jar into if things go bad, so it would be worth a shot. May even have to try a couple different jardini until the right temperament is found.

That is a pretty decent community you got their with the Jardini.
The tank is that design initially due to space requirements, I only had a small amount of width to work with, as I wanted to have a room behind the tank. As I was doing renovations, I didnt want to knock down that wall behind, and you can see there is a doorway to the left of the tank. So the tank had to be narrow near the left hallway, and becomes wider in the room. The tank will be visible as soon as you walk through the front door, and visible from most parts of the house, besides the bedrooms, which are down the hallway.

I don't have a jardini, unless if you were referring to the link I posted. I only posted it because after what seemed to be success the OP had posted today(last post) that he had remove the jardini from the community. As for adding a jardini to my aro community, I have decided to not take the risk.

Very nice work with getting the most out of you space. I often wish I would have gone with a custom 9'4" length to my tank instead of just going with a standard 8'.

Looking forward to seeing updates on this beauty

Nice build, Jardini and AUL will be fine together as long as you have wood for it to hide in if it is small. For community fish with the Jar in that tank there are lots of Aussie natives that will work if you have three or four of each. Archers, Coal Grunter, Jungle Perch any of the large Gudgeons. A lot cheaper and easier to get than Dats.
