They're small and they're already ready to kill each other. Jars don't like other jars. Maybe, maybe, maybe other fish, but not the same species.

This one is of 7 in one tank (I think someone on this site?) and it MIGHT just be the quantity of fish that's keeping them from tearing into each other. That or they were just introduced and haven't had time to start fighting. Regardless, these are all small fish, before the jars hit the 10-12" mark and become ruthless killers.

IMO, unless you have money to blow, don't risk it. Keep the jar by itself.

it may still work as in the videos you posted thats how my asian aros fight all the time

i think its down to them haveing to much space

i would try packing say 6 - 8 jars into a 2ft tank to see what happens

i know jars are agressive but i have never kept one so cant say for sure if it will work

the packed in method works because the aro forgets which one its chasing but as stated above its your money your risk

but i think you have no chance with 3 and the shop is very wrong buy telling you that

I can't say I agree with this logic, nor condone it. Of course they can't chase each other if they can't move, but why would you want to do that to the fish?

I've only seen one tank where it worked and that was in Jed's tank.. He had 2 Jars along with other aro's and not to mention a whole butt load of peacock bass. But i think the reason they got along ok is because they hardley ever saw each other with all those fish in the tank.. I would guess most people will say this will NOT work..

yup that tank is one hell of a tank
and it has worked great for him as all the fish in there are just beautiful and look healthy

thank you very much for your insight into my dilemma. i think i will just put in a couple of pbass and a couple ofdatnoids to keep him company. thanks again for all of your information. it helped.

the 2 x asian aros in your avitar must have been packed in or they to would kill each other

the only way to make an asian aro com work is to pack them in

what you are saying is its ok to pack asian aros in but not jars

im not talking about keeping the jars in that small tank for life up grade as they get bigger but to keep more than 1 jar you may need to pack them in

when they are packed in the aro forgets which aro its chasing if it has to weve in and out of other fish this is probably why jeds tank worked so well

if your filteration is good enought and the fish have space to swim i cant see a problem with packing them in it works in a malawi ciclhid tank

LOL> Those fish are not real. It's a 3d scene I made. Look closely at the back of each fish. They both have the same exact scale missing. They are photos of one fish mapped on a 3d model of an aro I made.

What I'm saying is that I don't agree with packing fish in. Not that what I believe is law or whether it's effective or not. I'm sure it works. Just don't agree that it's better than having one fish by itself. To each his own. I guess if you want to cram all your fish in a tank so they can't swim freely, then by all means have at it.

I personally like the way aros swim, and would rather see one aro swimming naturally than see 9 aros trying not to crash into one another. Whether it's Jars, Asians or Silvers.

Just my opinion.
