Short clip on one of the Jau. This is the time of year when they usually scuffle every day, many times a day. I assume this is due to the breeding mood. Not too terrible - tattered fins and missing parts of barbels but it sounds really scary, they employ loud mouth snapping sounds to intimidate each other and after the scuffle it takes time for them to cool down during which they may bite other tank mates that get in the way.

Yearly update.

Both jaus now look to be around 40". In the last 6-8 months they have been refusing thawed fish but take pellets eagerly. It worries / worried me because this is what some others have done before eventually perishing after some time, many months or a few years, e.g., TSN, TSNxRTC, and TSNxLei. Good thing I have now switched to mostly NLS.

Or maybe because they are so big now, they don't want high protein anymore.

Another change I noted is that they fight not by season anymore but more or less regularly regardless of the time of year, which is why you will see split fins in the video below, especially on the beta one, Zazula, on the bottom in the thumbnail.

ZZ has been adopted out 8 months ago. Now Zazula rules the tank alone. Grew some. Eats a lot of fish. Definitely close to 3.5 feet.

From YT comments:

I’ve just read that the heaviest Jau fished in Brazil had 265 pounds (120 kg), and had almost 6 feet long.
