Java fern dying! What do I do?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Root tabs will not help Java ferns. I find they prefer some water movement, not necessarily strong, but can take strong. I would cut the bad leaves to stimulate sprouting of new leaves. However, I don’t really know what is going on.

That's makes sense. It seemed to start dying when I removed the air pump strip.

Also the more exotic ferns are harder than regular ferns. I had trident ferns in decent lighting. Good flow and everything but still turns yellow and starts dying. Many people said it's lack of nutrients

I personally like low light plants like crypts vals dwarf sags and anubias. Toss in some root tabs and u be good.

Thanks! I actually had an anubias in my betta tank but it died (probably because I left it in the little pot it came with from petco)

But two leaves seemed to survive. For some reason. It's been 2 months and those leaves are still alive

Looks l
The tank has plenty of nitrates so why do my Java ferns look like this?

I let the roots naturally bury into the gravel so the the roots aren't the problem.

I have not added any kind of fertilizer, but I've always heard that Java ferns don't necessarily need it.

The light I have isn't really dim or anything. I guess it could be a little brighter buts it's not bad.

When I first got these Java ferns there were a couple of hitchhiker grayish snails that just had a bunch of babies. Is that the problem? Or do I just need to add riot tabs or something?

Any advice would be appreciated!
Looks like an iron deficiency to me. I would add some liquid fertiliser .

It could also be light, and or water flow.
Whenever I have trouble with a plant in one spot, I try moving it to another, where either the light is different, maybe more intense.
Could be closer to the surface, or
where water flow is different.
In nature java fern grows along rocky riffles in rivers and near water falls.

Ok. I'll probably try to attach it to my lava rock or branch that way it will be closer to my extra sponge filter I have running.
