Cotton threads? so like cotton thread that you would sew with?

Yes, sewing thread will do the trick...or you can use fishing line as well, and remove upon attachment after several weeks.

if you rubber-band the java moss it will attach itself to the log, but i would reccomend that you tie it down with thread this has worked better for me. also you do not need to tie down alot just enough to cover the area the rest will spread in time.
