hey everyone, havent posted in a while!

anyways, im getting my new tank soon, and im going to be using the current one as a plant-only tank with some cherry shrimps. So i want to go ahead and get it started so once i get my new tank, i can transfer my oscar out and get my shrimps in!

now, i wanna try some java moss, but before i do, i need to make sure ive got this right!

I just need a light for java moss, right? i have a 20watt florescent and the tank dimensions are 24"Wx18T"x12" if i recall correctly.

my filtration is a Aquaclear 70. ive heard i need to take out my carbon filter, is that true?

any help is appreciated!

you only need to remove your carbon if you are dosing fertilizers, which is not necessary for moss. That light should support moss

oh ok. so im good to go with just a heater and light?

anything special i need to do once i get it? aside from the initial quarantine?

not really. you would want to tie it (or superglue, fishing line, etc) onto decorations

It even does okay in light brackish. This plant will thrive even if you ignore it.

Will my Oscar be tempted to tear into it? I'd hate for him to destroy it before I can get him in his new tank.

He seems to only be agressive to other fish. Never tried plants.

It worked in my Oscar tank, but I designed the current to make it rotate like a huge globe in the center of the tank. Even when he did tear it up, it would reassemble itself as it spun in space. Now it's anchored by driftwood and he leaves it alone, mostly.

awesome, my oscars still just a little guy (3 inches) so im hoping its kinda like a dog that if i can get him used to as many different things as possible now he'll be a little more lax later on. it seems to work out pretty well!

had a problem with my first oscar moving rocks, when i got this one i used huge stones and now he doesnt even bother with moving finer gravel.

thanks everyone!

How fast or slow does java moss grow?? I just got some the other day.
