java moss- anything besides a light?

Actually, elevated temps and good current seem to aid in growth rate increases. I have this moss in most of my tanks and it seems to grow faster in warm, current-laden tanks. All the java moss I have (and have thrown down the toilet) came from a tiny pinch someone gave me. Of course, for all I know it's just the sunlight or some other variable helping it spurt. But you probably won't kill it if that's a concern.

My planted tank has ferts, 78 degree temp, and a good current... that stuff grew TOO fast. Even when the other plants are growing, slowly I might add, that moss was lightning fast in comparison. I had to remove it all so it did not consume my tank or choke any other plants. I wish my micro-sword grass would grow 1/2 as fast as Java Moss.

i love java moss! in my experience they don't like a lot of light! i would keep mine in a separate large critter keeper next to the sill with the shades closed and my moss grew fastest in this condition.

i tried with blinds open and also in tank and it grew a lot less and more pruning due to the browning.
