Java Moss Question

Do the bits of uneaten food that get stuck in the moss serve to fertilize the plant or are they just rotting to no good purpose?

hrmmm...... good question. I never have leftovers, so I couldn't tell ya. I'd just cut the food back so there are no leftovers. Better for your water quality IMO.

Agreed, but my angelfish are inbred and stupid. It takes them hours to find one piece of kibble while my Green Sunfish is lightning and eats every piece he sees. So I feed heavily once per day. And a few bits are stuck in the moss. It's growing explosively, so things can't be all bad.

I find it purely annoying and can't figure out how other plant keepers seem to keep their moss "free of debris"

I keep shaking mine loose of any mulm, food that gets into the clumps however the fish don't like being rustled out of their "homes"

The food will release ammonia and other plant nutrients as it decays. As long as there isn't enough to block the plant's access to light or fresh water it should be fine.

the food falling on it doesnt make it any difference then the food that falls on the substrate. like noto said food breaks down into ammonia which the plants can use.

i have the exact same problem, i can't figure out how people keep theirs perfectly green, mine is brownish green
