Java Moss

Java Moss.

For the life of me I cannot get java moss to attach to bog wood. I had secured it to the wood a month ago and it looked FANTASTIC. But every day i would have to remove it from my power-head filter until I got so frustrated I just put it in a mini floating.... plastic container.

Anyone else have a similar dilemma?

i strapped it down with a rubber band. it is attaching really well. That reminded me, i need to remove the bands

I have bought two plants that were called "java moss"

One of them mostly grows straight branches, and although it is very bushy, it doesn't seem to attach.

The other one just grows in a tangled, curly mass. I have attached it to many things. My methods are to bunch it under the object and let it grow up, or sometimes to tie it with some fishing line, since it's hard to see.

I assume the latter is the actual java moss but I dunno.

I use fishing line to attach it. You have to wrap it every 1/2 inch or so or else it will all end up in your filters. It takes a month or so to attach properly underwater. If you put it in a super-humid terrarium environment it will grow rhizomes, attach & spread much faster, instead of just growing long strands. Easiest way to do this is an upside down glass bowl over a plate of water, stuck in front of a window. You dont even need to use the fishing line for this method. Just wait a few weeks & voila!
