I'm a beginner with live plants and I'm looking for something simple.

I've heard java moss grows in any circumstances and that ie helps with nitrites, are those true? Also how do I plant it? Should I just toss it in my tank and let it find it's own home .... should I tie it down with fishing line?

Thanks.

If you want something to help your water quality, hang some pythos out of your tank with just the roots submerged under water...

But if you actually like the idea of using java moss, then yes, the best way would be to tie it to a piece of driftwood or rock...

There are several low light "low tech" plants that do great. And Its not NITRITE they remove....... its NITRATE it removes. Plants also like to suck up Ammonia when a tank is cycling. Java moss is a great plant to use for low light situation. I also agree tie it to some drift wood. Ive got some Flame moss. Its great stuff.
