Jaw Strength?

I would lean toward the puffers and pacu/piranha. Offhand I can't think of any other dedicated snail eaters, you'd expect snail eaters to have a strong bite.

Poly's have a strong bite grip and have never seen a fish "wrestle" away a piece of meat once the Bichir gets his mouth suround it.

I would have also guessed alligator gar, however I have had a larger Tiger Oscar, Red Bay Snook and Bichirs all steal food from juvinile gator gar.

I don't know if that proves that the bite is less strong though due to Gar repositioning their prey for a head first swallow.

I've seen 4-5ft lungfish tear through large Louisiana crayfish like they were biting into limp spaghetti. I've also seen large 3ft puffers clip steel fish hooks as if they were paper. Overall, my vote goes to the lungfish.

Puff daddies all the way!

Thanks for the input guys, seems like puffers and lungfish are the most favored of the strongest jaws!!!

So who's actually been bitten by a lungfish or pacu?
